Back to Rosarito Spring Break

Rock & Roll Taco is an official city landmark and famous for it's gourmet tacos, dancing waiters and legendary pool side fiestas. It was the favorite hangout for cast members of The Titanic (Leo, Kate & Billy didn't get drinks named after them for nothing). You'll also notice our fascination with skeletons. Before you get to thinking we're a little on the creepy side, please allow us to explain...

Rock & Roll Taco has quite a colorful past. The site was originally home to radio station XERB AM. This was back in the day when rock & roll music was brand new and many people considered it the beginning of the end. Wolfman Jack was here then, broadcasting live from XERB and thumbing his nose at all the U.S. censors. His show went all the way up the coast and could be heard in the U.S. and as far away as Canada.

He came back for a visit in '94 to host an oldies concert in the Plaza. Later we got him on the mic at Rock & Roll Taco and it was, perhaps, the coolest moment in our history. Today you'll find a sidewalk plaque dedicated to his memory because, as we like to say around here, rock & roll never forgets.

The RRT building circa the 1950's, home of XERB AM and Wolfman Jack's rock & roll radio show. Awooo!

The site later became the town mortuary, complete with coffins on display in the front windows. In the mid-80's it was home to Rosarito Village Cantina until an unfortunate fire gutted the building.

Then we moved in.

At Rock & Roll Taco you'll quickly notice our fascination with skeletons. They are the official mascots for a place that's seen a lot. We use them on everything from T-shirt designs to fliers to menus. In Mexico it is a tradition to celebrate the dead. Hey, we even have a holiday for just this purpose.

They say that old ghosts die hard. We say why not just invite them to the fiesta? So if you feel an unseen hand pulling you toward the dance floor, don't resist. Just finish your taco, grab your beer and join in the celebration...

These days the building that is home to Rock & Roll Taco still knows how to rock. The kitchen turns out gourmet tacos, fat burritos and a variety of other finger foods, the DJ's spin 'till everyone's dizzy and live bands keep the joint jumping. Stargaze if there's a movie currently in production, check out the waiters' floor show at midnight (un poquito mas suave...), or join the conga line around the pool and get caught up in the general madness and mayhem that makes up an ordinary evening at RRT.
